How To Make a Couch Bar in 10 Easy Steps!
How to make a couch bar in 10 easy steps!
Step 1: Determine how long and tall you want your couch bar based on the size of your couch. This couch bar is 9ft long by 30inches high (33inches including the iron rail)
Step 2: Go shopping for supplies. All wood and pipe available at Home Depot. (Don't be afraid to lay it all out on the floor and put it together to make sure you have all the pieces) All paint supplies available at Lowe's
Step 3: Have Home Depot Cut 12ft wood planks to desired length (my bar is 9ft.) Make sure the 3 excess wood pieces (36inches each) are cut down to 16 inches. If you want your table to have tighter seems (so crumbs don't get caught down in), have wood planks planed to cut off rounded edges.
Step 4: Screw together wood top by assembling up side down. See you tube video for example....link here
Step 5: Sand Wood to remove rough spots and edges. Wipe off saw dust
Step 6: Stain Wood *see coat rack video for stain tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXXKTrt4r3M&t=4s let dry for 72 hours then add 2 coats of polycrylic on top, follow instructions on can. (you may want to do a light coat of stain on the underside of the wood as well)
Step 7: Wash off oil from all pipes and fittings in water with dawn dish soap. Dry well so it does not rust.
Step 8: Assemble bar top railing and legs. Make sure they will fit on wood bar top.
Step 9: Spray paint bar top railing and legs while they are assembled but not attached to the wood.
Step 10: Once dry, screw bar top railing to wood and screw legs into the wood.
That's IT! For $262 you have bragging rights for the rest of your life that you built your couch bar!

Great guide! Very helpful - my wife and I just completed ours. Maybe only two quick notes - it wasnt clear to me the T's had to be 1/2 all around. (of course that's a duh moment). I think in the picture above from HD it looked like one sides was 3/4. Had to make a few trips figuring that one out. Also, based on my total cost it appears its about double - but due to crazy lumber prices and pandemic. Required going to 5 hardware stores to get everything in the list - these are hard to find items these days.
